Hazelnut
Hazelnuts are known as a very nutritious nut and contain many health benefits. Hazelnuts are a source of the essential unsaturated fatty acid - Linoleic acid, the "good fat", which makes them a great energy booster. All nuts contribute fibre to the diet and hazelnuts contain a moderate amount. Eating foods rich in fibre helps to satisfy hunger for longer. Dietary fibre can help manage cholesterol and is essential for a healthy bowel function.
Hazelnuts are one of the best food-source of Vitamin E, supplying over 20mg
per 100 gram portion. They are also one of the best nut sources of
manganese which is the subject of research into nerve nourishment & the
maintenance of sex-hormone production.
They also contain significant amounts of B group vitamins including
folates and Vitamin B6.
Melrose Hazelnut Spread contains
- 90% Hazelnuts
- 10% Cashew nuts to assist milling
Almond
Almonds are the most alkaline of all nuts, which alone is a major benefit. Almonds are rich in Vitamin E, with just a handful (30g, about 20 nuts) providing 85% of the Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) for Vitamin E. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble vitamin and antioxidant. It's important to include in the diet foods rich in healthy fats, such as nuts to maintain heart health.
The delicately flavored and versatile almond is available throughout the year to make a healthy and tasty addition to both sweet and savory dishes.

Cashew
Cashew nuts, a richly sweet product of the cashew tree, have gained popularity not only for their succulent flavour but for health benefits too. Cashew nuts are beneficial for your health as they contain Heart-Protective Monounsaturated Fats, Copper, and Magnesium.i
Of all the tree nuts they have the lowest fat content. This is due to the agreeable fat ratio in the nut, 1:2:1 for saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated, respectively, which scientists say is the ideal ratio for optimal health. Cashews have no cholesterol and are an energizing food. Cashew nuts have a high energy density and high amount of dietary fibre, both have been attributed to a beneficial effect on weight management, but only when eaten in moderation
Cashews pack a mix of nutrients and minerals not found in many common foods. The cashew nuts' high magnesium content takes the credit for its healthy heart qualities. This heart healthy mineral protects against high blood pressure, muscle spasms, migraine headaches, tension, soreness and fatigue. Magnesium also works with calcium to support healthy muscles and bones in the human body. With a high copper content, too, cashew nut consumption helps the body utilize iron, eliminate free radicals, develop bone and connective tissue, and produce the skin and hair pigment melanin. ii Copper, another essential component found in cashews, is vital in energy production and antioxidant defence, producing greater flexibility in blood vessels, bones and joints.
Melrose Cashew Spread contains

Macadamia
One of the many benefits of the Australian Macadamia nut is that they taste so good while being good for you. Their delicate flavor, versatility and texture make them a delight to consume. Research tells us that Macadamias are a healthy snack choice. They contain a high percentage of good monounsaturated fats, which are also found in olive oil, avocados and almonds. The percentage of the good monounsaturated fats in Macadamias is nearly double that of almonds. Macadamias are a high energy food and contain no cholesterol.
Macadamias contain significant levels of protein which are an essential component of our diet and in our bodies form muscle and connective tissues, hair and nails, are part of our blood and act positively on many aspects of our health. The protein in macadamias comprise essential and non essential amino acids. Macadamias contain all the essential amino acids, with most present at optimum levels.
Macadamias contain a large range of minerals. They are rich in Iron, Potassium, Magnesium and Calcium. Potassium is associated with fluid balance and volume. Magnesium is important in nervous activity and muscle contraction. Calcium is the major component in bone, bone formation and teeth. It plays an important part in many other body processes.

ABC
Melrose ABC Spread - Almond, Brazil and Cashew
- Good source of protein - protein balance is similar to meat
- Made from 100% lightly roasted nuts
- Almonds - good source of calcium and magnesium
- Brazil nuts - richest natural source of the antioxidant selenium
- Cashews - high content of monounsaturated fats
- Vegetarian
Humans need approximately 19 grams of protein a day. Meat has been the most usual source of protein for humans, but this raises a dilemma for vegetarians and others wishing to consume less meat. While nuts provide an adequate source of quality protein, it is also important to have a spread of amino acids which make up protein. Melrose has established that equal quantities of Almonds, Brazil and Cashew nuts can supply the right balance of protein. Our ABC Spread contains all three of these nutritious nuts, giving you the taste you love and the nutrition you need.
Almonds are the most alkaline of all nuts, which alone is a major benefit. Almonds are an excellent source of calcium and magnesium. Magnesium works with calcium to support healthy muscles and bones in the body.
The sweet tasting Brazil nuts are particularly healthy due to their high protein and selenium content, which makes their protein content "complete". This means that, unlike the proteins in most plant products, Brazil nuts' proteins contain all the necessary amino acids to foster optimal growth in humans (in the same way as proteins from animal products do). Selenium is also a powerful antioxidant . Brazil nuts are also a very good source of zinc (essential to digestion and metabolism).
Cashew nuts have a high content of monounsaturated fats, Omega-9, copper and magnesium. Cashews do not contain cholesterol and are an energizing food. Cashew nuts have a high energy density and high amount of dietary fibre, both have been attributed to a beneficial effect on weight management, but only when eaten in moderation.
Melrose ABC Spread contains
- Almonds 33%
- Brazil nuts 34%
- Cashew nuts 33%
Brazil/Linseed
Brazil nuts are sweet tasting and an excellent source of selenium, a vital mineral and antioxidant that may help prevent heart disease. The inclusion of this natural source of selenium in our diets is important as it is an element in which Australian soils are notably deficient. They are called Brazil nuts because they're the seeds of a very large tree from the Amazon rainforest. Brazil nuts for international trade come entirely from wild collection rather than from cultivated nut farms.
Linseed, better known for its Flaxseed oil, is the richest natural source of plant lignans, as well as being an excellent source of soluble and insoluble fibre. It is also the richest plant source of Omega-3 fatty acids. We are becoming more aware of the importance of this essential fat in our diets and its role in protecting our bodies against the stresses we encounter daily. Omega-3 is as important as protein, minerals and vitamins and Flaxseeds contain 50% more Omega-3 than fish oil.
Melrose Brazil and Linseed Spread contains
- Brazil Nuts 85%
- Linseed Meal 15%
Walnut/Cashew
Walnuts have significantly higher amounts of Omega-3 fatty acids as compared to other nuts. This polyunsaturated fat is particularly beneficial for the heart as it has been shown that it helps to lower LDL cholesterol levels (the bad cholesterol).
Cashew nuts, a rich sweet product of the cashew tree, have gained popularity not only for their succulent flavour but for health benefits too. They have a relatively low fat content, when compared with other nuts, but it is considered a "good fat". Cashews have no cholesterol and are an energizing food. Cashew nuts have a high energy density and high amount of dietary fibre, both have been attributed to a beneficial effect on weight management, but only when eaten in moderation
Melrose Walnut and Cashew Spread contains
- Walnuts 80%
- Cashew 20%
