Ingredients
The most prominent ingredients are Flaxmeal, Soy flour, Barley Grass powder, Brazil and Almond meal and Sunflower meal.
Flaxmeal
Flaxseed is unique among plants because of its exceptionally high lignan content.
Plant lignans are the precursors of the mammalian lignans, primarily enterodiol and enterolactone (2). Several observations led to the hypothesis that lignans have antitumour properties: foremost is the observation that urinary excretion of lignans is significantly lower in individuals at risk of the hormone related breast, ovarian and prostate cancers (3).
Flaxmeal has 11% soluble fibre and 22% insoluble fibre, which aid bowel movement and thereby contribute to colon health.
Flax meal also contains a significant percentage of Omega- 3 ALA to provide a heart benefit through its ability to disperse platelet aggregates in the blood (4). Omega-3 ALA is also the precursor of the fatty acid DHA (docosahexaenoic) - necessary for brain and visual acuity (5).
Soy Flour
Soy is a recognized source of the isoflavonoids: diadzein and genistein. Our Soy Flour has been pre-cooked prior to inclusion. If, as suggested, that lignans have similar effects on hormonal tumours as the isoflavonic phytoestrogens, then the protective effect of the soybean, the richest source of phytoestrogens, may also be expected from flaxmeal (6).
The phytoestrogens in soy help prevent osteoporosis by increasing bone density and may also alleviate the hot flushes associated with the female menopause (7).
Barley Grass
Barley grass is a natural source of chlorophyll, beta carotene, free folates and a host of other minerals and natural vitamins. Its intense green colour is due to its exceedingly high chlorophyll content. Chlorophyll is sensitive to light and our answer is to pack Breakfast Booster in an opaque container.
Brazil Nuts
Brazil nuts are the richest natural source of the antioxidant selenium, containing up to 20 parts per million of this element. Selenium is an essential trace element in the body and is an important part of antioxidant enzymes that protect cells against the effects of free radicals that are produced during normal oxygen metabolism.
