Overview
The idea that effective hair and skin care products could be 100% certified organic is a dream that could be possible in time, however for the present only some ingredients are organic. We can select organic ingredients such as; oils, extracts, fragrances and aloe vera water, but for the more sophisticated hair care ingredients, the total organic concept is not realistic at present. Melrose Natures Herbs range of hair, skin and bath products contains 80% organic ingedents (Organic Aloe Vera Shower Gel with 50% organic ingredients).
- Sulphate Free
- Paraben Free
- PEGlycol free
- Organic Extracts
- Care for the environment

Decyl Polyglucoside
(Shampoos, Bath Foam) Produced from glucose and medium chain triglycerides. Although described in the literature over 100 years ago, polyglucosides are expensive and have only recently been produced commercially. Polglucosides are the surfactant of choice in formulating nonionic “sulphate free shampoos”. They are not as good foam builders as SLES, but properly formulated with other selected ingredients make effective shampoos. Nonionic

Cocoamidopropyl Betaine
(Shower Gel) a mild foam builderCocoamidopropyl Betaine CAPB is an extremely mild ingredient produced from Coconut, Palm oils and Betaine that originates from sugar beet. In addition to its mildness, CAPB adds body to the shampoo. Highly water soluble. Nonionic.
Guar Trimonium Chloride from Guar
(Shampoo)

Cetearyl Alcohol
(Conditioner, moisturiser) Cetearyl Alcohol is a mixture of Cetyl and Stearyl Alcohols. It is a soft waxy substance obtained by processing Coconut and Palm Kernel Oils. Water insoluble.

THE FOLLOWING INGREDIENTS ARE USED IN LESS THAN 1% CONCENTRATION
Carbomer
(shampoo, bath foam) An acrylic thickener used in cosmetics and sulphate free shampoos to build viscosity.
Essential Oils
The above ingredients that are used in shampoos have a slight aroma imprint. Whilst not unpleasant, the imprint is unfamiliar. Essential oils such as Lavender and fragrances produced by distillation or from nature identical ingredients are used to impart the desired fragrance. Care has to be taken in their selection as a very small percentage of people develop skin irritation.
Organic Plant extracts
Extracts of plants and roots are used to create certain effects on the hair and as a marketing tool.
(Conditioner) Sorbic Acid is a preservative now being widely used to preserve acidic foods and acidic hair care products against moulds and yeasts. It occurs naturally in many plants. It is only effective in acid products at a pH below 5. This limits its use to Conditioners and acid shampoos.
Polyquaternium 7
(shampoo, conditioner) A cationic conditioner that is compatible with anionic and nonionic shampoo ingredients. Adds softness and shine to your hair
Sodium Hydroxymethyl Glycinate
(shampoo, conditioner, bath foam, shower gel) Raw materials for shampoos have low bacteria counts when purchased, however they are not sterile. In order that the bacterial level does not increase, bacteriastats are added. Sometimes a range of bacteriacides are used in order to take care of a wide range of bacteria. Sodium Hydroxymethyl Glycinate is a broad spectrum bacteriastat made from proteins. Water soluble.
Chloracetamide and Sodium Benzoate – Preservatives
(moisturiser) A Swiss/German preservative. Chloracetamide is a bacteriacide with low toxicity as is Sodium Benzoate. Sodium Benzoate is also used as a bacteriastat in soft drinks. Water soluble.
