Everyday benefits of healthy omegas
We often hear about healthy omegas being important due to their effects on inflammation, but what does this actually mean?
Inflammation is an important natural defensive response to injury or infection. It presents as heat, swelling, redness and pain. The purpose of inflammation is to eliminate the cause and heal the body. Chronic inflammation refers to long-term inflammation. It is usually caused by a failure to eliminate the initial cause of inflammation or the development of an autoimmune condition where the body fights healthy tissue mistaking it for a damaging pathogen.
Some diseases that are driven by chronic inflammation include asthma, cardiovascular disease, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, migraine, period pain and skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
Omega-6 provides an important component in the natural inflammatory response. However, excess omega-6 in the body has the potential to exacerbate inflammation and can inhibit the body’s ability to convert ALA to EPA and DHA.
Omega-3 EPA and DHA have powerful anti-inflammatory effects, making them a viable treatment option to reducing pain and reducing risk factors associated with many chronic inflammatory diseases. High Strength Fish Oil and Organic Flaxseed Oil are great choices for reducing inflammation.
Further to this, healthy omegas have some amazing effects that contribute to anti-ageing.
EFAs are not specifically anti-ageing but they are definitely beneficial in many conditions associated with ageing. Their anti-inflammatory effects can reduce symptoms in conditions such as arthritis and cardiovascular disease. They preserve brain and eye integrity, contributing to improved outcomes in degenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s and dementia. They are a crucial component to the cell membranes and are essential to preserve the protective impermeable nature of skin. EFAs contribute to suppleness of arteries and skin.
