Melrose Immune Guard: Ingredients Focus

Nutritionist Steph Lowe shares what she loves about the ingredients we use in Melrose Immune Guard.

Melrose Immune Guard is more than your standard vitamin C powder. It combines ascorbic acid with native Australian Kakadu Plum, Quercetin plus other beneficial nutrients and is designed to further support healthy immune function and reduce the severity and duration of cold and flu symptoms and mild allergies. Let’s take a closer look at each ingredient and what I love about them.

Australian Kakadu Plum

Australian Kakadu Plum is one of nature’s best sources of vitamin C with 100 times that of oranges and antioxidants five times stronger than blueberries. Wild harvested by local indigenous communities in the Northern Territory, it’s processed quickly to ensure optimal nutrient value and is a beautiful way to help boost your daily intake. Vitamin C has been extensively studied for its immune-boosting properties as it’s a powerful antioxidant that protects cells from potentially harmful free radicals.

Zinc

Zinc is essential for virtually all elements of immune function as it’s required for the optimal development and workings of white blood cells, cytokine production, and phagocytosis – a Pac-man-like process where cells engulf harmful bacteria and foreign material. Due to its antioxidant nature, zinc also acts similarly to vitamin C and offsets reactive oxygen species that would otherwise damage immune cells.

Olive leaf extract

Derived from an olive plant, olive leaf extract contains the active ingredient oleuropein, an incredibly strong antioxidant that supports your natural immune response. As it’s antimicrobial in nature, it inhibits the growth of bacteria, fungi and viruses.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D plays an important role in regulating immunity. By priming our innate immune system and triggering an antimicrobial response it acts to protect the body from infection. When exposed to disease-causing pathogens, adequate vitamin D enables you to quickly fight them off before they cause illness. Vitamin D is also anti-inflammatory in nature and helps dampen immune responses through inhibiting the adaptive immune system. While vitamin D is famous for its role in bone health and mood support, one of its most important roles is immunity. An appropriate immune response is heavily dependent on vitamin D.

Quercetin

Quercetin helps your body control it's natural response to seasonal allergies by naturally reducing the amounts of histamine your body releases when you react to allergy triggers.

Quercetin belongs to a group of plant pigments known as flavonoids that give colour to many fruits and vegetables including, onions, apples, broccoli and berries. It has anti-inflammatory properties that help to decrease the symptoms of mild allergies as well as being an antioxidant that reduces free radicals formed in the body.
